On the evening of March 30, 2025, the "Blue Dome Memoir: Art Exhibition for Ocean Protection," meticulously created by international environmental action artist Wan Yunfeng, grandly opened at the Sanya CBD Cultural Relics and Art Center. The ocean is the last letter from the sky.

As a pioneer in the global field of environmental art, Wan Yunfeng held an immersive exhibition that integrates painting, photography, installation, fashion shows, and performance art. This sends a strong appeal to the public to "protect the oceans" and elevates the concept of the symbiotic relationship between art and environmental protection to new heights.

A Deep Dialogue between Art and Environmental Protection: Creative Inspiration from Antarctic Scientific Research

The ocean conservation journey of Wan Yunfeng started in 2013.As an environmentally conscious performance artist who undertook an expedition to Antarctica, he personally witnessed the melting of polar glaciers and the marine ecological crisis. This experience has become the central inspiration for his creations. At the exhibition, he creatively produced 30 sets of fashion designs using marine debris collected through beach clean-up efforts by the Sanya Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association. He also created 55 mixed media paintings themed around ocean conservation, addressing concepts such as melting, flourishing, and tsunamis. In addition, he displayed 41 photographic series focusing on the struggles of ocean protection, safeguarding the North and South Poles, and traveling around the world. Moreover, there were multimedia videos advocating for ocean conservation with a total duration of over 100 minutes, which played on a loop throughout the exhibition. The main attractions of the exhibition are the sea turtles, penguins, seals, as well as whales and dolphins. The artwork incorporates a large amount of ocean waste and mixed materials, all collected by the 'Ocean Guardians' from beach clean-ups in various marine regions. It uses concrete visual impacts to reveal the erosion of polar ecology caused by human activities.

The artist Wan Yunfeng expressed with tearful eyes at the opening ceremony: "Using clouds as the pen tip and the crests of waves as the writing paper, with the rhythm of the tides as the breath, the unbroken Morse code lies hidden within the coral skeleton. When the period of glaciers melts into sighs, plastic patches stitch the broken paragraphs, oil seeps into the black holes between the words, humanity finally understands: every drop of seawater carries the genes of the sky—carbonic tears of clouds, the echo of thunderous whale songs, and the verses of migrating fish torn apart by fishing nets. When I saw seals wrapped in plastic in Antarctica, art ceased to be a tool for expressing beauty and must become a voice to awaken conscience."

Multidimensional Art Forms: the Transformation from Waste to High Fashion worn by International Supermodels.

The exhibition breaks the boundaries of traditional art and presents the urgency of ocean protection through three core sections. The segment of the international supermodel ocean environmental protection fashion show conveys the concept and advocacy of ocean protection to the world through the unique art practice of the environmental artist Wan Yunfeng, who transforms garbage into high-end fashion, utilizing the fashion show format and performance art. From Antarctica to Notre-Dame de Paris, then to the Arc de Triomphe, Vancouver, Singapore, and even the Milan Fashion Week, Wan Yunfeng's artistic practice has long transcended national borders. He uses waste materials as the medium for his creations and employs a highly impactful visual language to expose the ocean ecological crisis. He has become a prominent figure in the international environmental art field and is recognized as the first environmental performance artist from China to appear on the international edition of Vogue, which praised him as "the next superstar to lead the global fashion industry."He is also the first environmental performance artist from China to appear on international CNN.And CNN has praised him as: the Chinese artist who turns garbage into high-end fashion.

As an environmental performance artist, Wan Yunfeng's ocean-themed paintings and photographs are not only an innovative practice of visual art, but also a profound reflection on the marine ecological crisis.Through the integration of diverse media and cross-disciplinary expression, he has transformed the environmental protection issue into a touching artistic language, creating a unique system of creation.Wan Yunfeng is draped in a "shackle" made of plastic bottles and discarded fabrics, slowly moving through a black liquid that simulates oil pollution, using body language to concretize the survival plight of marine life.

On the evening of the event, the creative team also specially presented a "Small Splash" to the "ocean guardians" from various professions and officially launched the "Small Splash Guardian Program" to commend the volunteers who contributed to ocean protection. The Secretary-General of the Sanya Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association, Pu Bingmei, stated during an interview: "Ocean protection is inseparable from the silent dedication of frontline workers, who are the 'most familiar strangers'."This event uses "Small Splash" as an emotional symbol, focusing on groups such as coastal cleaners, sanitation workers, and environmental volunteers. Through the trilogy of "Sending Flowers - Linking - Growing," it aims to forge an emotional bond between the public and the "ocean guardians," while conveying the concept that "every ordinary contribution deserves recognition." It seeks to inspire a sense of mission in the public to participate in ocean protection."Even if I only influence one person to pay attention to environmental protection, it is worth the effort!" Wan Yunfeng reiterated his creative belief at the press conference. From oil paintings to performance art, and from fashion shows to art exhibitions, he has consistently broken the public's sense of detachment from environmental protection with a "diverse artistic language."As the theme of the exhibition "Blue Dome Memo" implies, the ocean is the last blue dome of the earth, and it is with it that the most pressing issue on the human memorandum coexists.

This event has been guided by the National Foreign Cultural Trade Base (Sanya) and fully supported by the Sanya CBD Cultural Relics and Art Center. It also invited the artist Wan Yunfeng to jointly create cultural and creative works for Sanya, collect Wan Yunfeng's related works, and jointly create a series of cultural and creative products of marine IP "Fu Lu Baby".

During an interview with journalists, Yin Qian, the co-curator of the Sanya CBD Cultural Relics and Art Center, remarked that Sanya, as an internationally recognized tropical coastal tourist city, is hosting high-profile art exhibitions in conjunction with urban development at the time of establishing an international free trade port and customs closure in Hainan Island. This can promote the upgrading and innovation of the art industry from multiple dimensions.Create a unique experience of "artistic ecology" by hosting an international fashion show themed around marine environmental protection, with the aim of attracting high-net-worth cultural individuals and extending their stay duration.Fashion art exhibitions that meet high aesthetic quality requirements can effectively enhance the aesthetic value of a city. This has become a focal point for social media dissemination, utilizing traffic to promote and energize urban cultural tourism.Through hosting art exhibitions, Sanya deeply integrates its urban brand and image qualities, which not only enhances its tourism competitiveness but also promotes the art industry as a new engine for the city's development. This transition from "scenic consumption" to "cultural consumption" will aid in establishing Hainan's free trade port as an international cultural hub.

The event is organized by Beijing Yunfeng International Modeling Art Design Co., Ltd., hosted by Hainan Julong Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd., and produced by the technical team of Sanya Zelan Audio-Visual Technology Co., Ltd.This event uses high-tech and fashion-cutting-edge stage facilities and equipment to perfectly present the holographic effects of the ocean, beach, time and space tunnel, and sea blue dream in the international supermodel fashion show that night.
